I frequently get DM’s about my lash extensions, so I thought I would dedicate a whole post to answer ALL of your questions!
I first got lash extensions about 4 years ago and have gone through periods with and without them. Mostly without them, but for the last 7-8 months I’ve worn them full time and don’t see that changing anytime soon!
For me they work great because I wear minimal make up especially during the week days and having them on saves me SO much time in the mornings (#wokeuplikethis). Also, I have blonde (borderline transparent) eye lashes so if I am not wearing mascara they are nonexistent.
Having them on ensures I always have a great lash day. When I would wear mascara before extensions half of the time my lashes would either be too clumpy or I wouldn’t get enough volume and end up with black circles under my eyes. With the extensions I personally do not wear mascara at all.
Refill time – it typically takes about an hour and a half for the re-fill (but I only go once every 3-4 weeks!)
Cost (about $90-$110) but all salons vary in price!
There are many different lash styles you can with the
extensions- more natural to dramatic. I personally get longer lashes on the
outside of my eyes and ask for them to be shorter towards the inside.
I asked my very talented lash extension queen, Madison (of Madison’s Avenue – Houston ladies she’s the best!) to answer all your pressing questions! These are the most common questions I get, see Madison’s responses below.
1.Does it hurt when getting the lash extensions?
Absolutely not! There
is no pain when getting Eyelash Extensions. In fact, its very relaxing! You are
laying down with your eyes closed as the extensions are placed on top of your
natural lashes. The process is painless!
**IF your lashes hurt you, they are
not being done properly!
2. Will getting the extensions ruin my natural lashes?
No! If done correctly with proper isolation
your extensions will fall out naturally as your
natural lash sheds.
inexperienced lash artist with improper training could do damage by;
using extensions too long or too heavy, using too much adhesive, improper
isolation making lashes stick together and premature shedding or
pulling. This is why its so important to make sure your lash artist
is trained properly and your lashes ever hurt.
3. How long will they last?
With the NovaLash adhesive I use, your
extensions will last you 3-6 weeks! To keep them full, you will want a refill
(touch-up) every 3-4 weeks.
4. Can I wear mascara on top of my lash extensions?
Mascara is typically not
needed with lash extensions. Mascara should only be used when a
touch-up is drawing near. Water-soluble mascara can be worn; however constant
use of mascara may shorten the lifespan of lashes. Waterproof mascara is
not recommended for use, as it will dissolve the bond with the lashes.
NovaLash glycol and carbonate free mascara is specifically formulated for use
on extensions without interfering with the adhesive. I sell the NovaLash
Mascara in my studio!
5. Can I get lash extensions while pregnant?
Generally speaking, eyelash
extensions are a safe and non-invasive cosmetic procedure. Allergic reactions
to the adhesive are very rare (1 in several thousand) and when they do present,
are easily treated. In saying this, I do not recommend that pregnant women who
have never had eyelash extensions before test out the procedure during their
pregnancy. The reasons are two-fold – firstly, the lash extension
procedure requires you to lay flat on your back for over one hour; a position
that is not recommended for women in the advanced stages of pregnancy. It also
requires that you lie quite still – which can be hard if you’re heavily
pregnant! Secondly, if you were unlucky enough to have an allergic reaction,
your doctor may not be able to give you the required treatment due to your
pregnancy, prolonging the reaction.
**However – if you have been
getting your lashes done prior and you become pregnant, there’s no
problem continuing with the extensions! Just let your artist know
so they are aware and can keep you comfortable during.
6. Do the extensions come in different lash colors?
They do! Believe it or not, there is every
color in the rainbow! They also make Ombre lashes! I have some that
gradually go from black at the bottom to purple on the tips, so pretty! There
is also brown extensions for a lighter look for blondes or red heads. I
currently don’t carry all of these colors but if you ever want to try something
out let me know and I can order some!
I personally think the summer is a fun time to
add some color to your lashes!
7. Are they waterproof?
Yes! NovaLash extensions are 100% waterproof
immediately after your service. You can go home and shower or workout! However,
this is not the case for all lash extensions! Depending on the
products, some require that you wait 24-48hrs before getting them wet.
8. I don’t live in Houston but what should I look for in a lash technician?
If you want a NovaLash artist you can go to
their website and search for an artist in your city!
If there isn’t a NovaLash artist or you want a
different look, I would google and search on IG using hashtags for your city. Personally,
I like to look at pictures of their work! I would stay away from big chain
salons, I’ve found that the quality of their work is poor and they rush through
clients. I would find a solo lash artist or a small local

With the right lash artist though you can have lash extensions forever!!

Over MLK weekend we decided to make the short trek to New Orleans (about 5 hrs from Houston) for a fun weekend get away, and it did not disappoint!
Its been a couple years since I’ve explored the streets of New Orleans and my interests have changed quite a bit, we focused a little less on Bourbon Street this trip and decided to take in all the great food (drinks) and culture NOLA had to offer. See all the details of 72 hours adventure along with my top recommendations!
We checked into our beautiful and conveniently located hotel, The Eliza Jane. I was in awe on how beautiful this hotel was and immediately it gave me the sudden urge to redecorate my entire house. It had many cozy spots to hang out by the fire, a full bar, and an (award winning) restaurant attached. We did not eat at the restaurant, but it smelled amazing every morning!
After we checked in we walked over to Seaworthy for some delicious oysters (insider tip- try to make reservations, we had to wait even at 11PM at night). This spot is cute, cozy and Instagram worthy. After dinner we headed over to the iconic ACE Hotel for drinks.
We headed to the famous Ruby Red Slipper for brunch, right across from the hotel (tip: use the “Nowait” app to secure your place in line). The brunch was delicious and everything we had hoped for- You can’t go wrong with the “big easy” mimosa!
Next on the list, explore the French quarter pop into all of the fun stores, street performers, and even enjoy a beignet.
Wander over to the Pharmacy Museum for a very interesting look on the evolution of modern medicine and walk out feeling #blessed to live in the 21st century. Fee $5 – open 10-4PM guided tours at 1pm (except Saturdays)
Squeezed into Arnaud’s French 75 bar for the best French 75 of your life (champagne + gin + lemon = perfection). Order the soufflé potatoes for a quick snack.
Head over to St. Roch Market food hall and get one of everything! But seriously save room and then head over to Red’s Chinese – Dive style but the best Chinese food in the south. Try the Craw Rangoons!
Now at this point- you’ll need more champagne so head over to the cutest champagne bar Effervescence for all your champagne dreams to come true! To my non-champagne drinkers don’t worry they have other cocktails as well.
You can’t successfully end a day without desert so head over to Bakery Bar (open until 11) to get the rainbow cake!
Schedule a cemetery tour- We used Tours by Steven (although there are many) and toured St. Louis Cemetery #1. This was such a cool experience and you get to see the famous tombs and learn more about the history of this cemetery – even see Nicolas Cages tomb! Tours are generally 9am-2pm. Note you must have a tour guide to enter this cemetery.
Head over to Parkway Bakery & Tavern to live out your Po-boy dreams (if you didn’t have Po-boy dreams you will now). Get the sweet potatoes fries for a side!
Thing swing by the famous Magazine Street and explore all
the shops and unique to New Orleans boutiques.
Don’t forget to head over to La Boulangerie – For the best Kings Cake (if in Season)

Save your appetite and go to Saba (make a reservation in advance!) and eat your heart out. They have specials that change daily but I highly recommend the Bulgarian feta and Cauliflower babaganoush. If you need any more convincing, please read warm pita bread.
End your night on Frenchman street- walk into any bar and
hear beautiful jazz music that NOLA does best. (note: popular bars like The
Spotted Cat charge a smaller cover fee, so have some cash on you!)
I’ve been seeing SO many pumpkin recipes lately and yesterday was the day I decided to cave and bake away!
Cookies are my favorite thing to bake because they are easy to grab (no cutting required) and taste as you go! These cookies turned out so yummy and soft, you are going to want more than one. And unfortunately I wasn’t able to get many photos before they were all gone!

To be honest shopping the Nordstrom sale can be a bit overwhelming, to say the least! So many options and so many things selling out by the minute.
This year is the first year I decided to get a Nordstrom card and shop the sale before the public and I am glad I did!
Don’t get me wrong, there will still be lots of things left when the same opens up to the public but I had my heart set on a few things this year that I would be devastated (dramatic right?) if they sold out! Namely these perfect booties!
What I bought from the Nordstrom sale- Shoes, Sweaters, and Jeans! Really stocking up on some good finds for winter since the deals are so good. Most everything linked below is under $100!
Shop my favorite picks below (all still in stock!)
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, sale is one of my favorite words in the english language! And there are SO many good ones going on right now, its overwhelming! Don’t worry though, I’ve scouted out the best finds for you.
One of my favorite sales of the year is here! The Shopbop sale is so good because the discounts apply to all brands, most of which never have sales. And with the weather starting to warm up (at least in Texas) its the best time to load up on all things Spring!
Shop my favorite picks below, some of which are already in my cart (husband if your reading this.. its too late #sorrynotsorry). But shop these sooner rather than later, most items sell out quick!
Every time I spell out Valentines i’m tempted to write Valentimes (only me?). Anyway I can’t believe Valentines day is only ONE week away! Since this Valentine’s day is on a week day and we are busy both weekends sounding it our Valentines day will consist of my husband making his famous vodka sauce pasta (SO GOOD) and us sitting on the couch watching a movie and i’m not mad about it!
But if your like me you may or may not always wait until the last minute to pick out the perfect gift (sorry hubs!) But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! See my favorite picks below for him/her and some Vday outfit ideas that you can still get in time for the big day!
Lucky for me I got to work from home today! It’s what we call a “snow day” down south (AKA there is some ice). But hey, I’ll take it! To continue my monthly series, Books to Read this Month, I am bringing you books that can help you meet your goals in 2018! Here are some books that will bring you inspiration and ideas on how to make 2018 your best year yet:
Okay I am not going to say this changed my life, but it really did help me when it came to organizing and decluttering my house, office, car, etc! As much as I try to simplify my material possessions, sometimes it’s HARD. I always think… I might wear that one day… or I might need that pen I got from the dentist’s office 5 years ago… This book really helps cut ties and organize. I am actually re-reading it now!
This book’s title pretty much says it all. It really gives insight on how to be your biggest cheerleader and your biggest enemy when it comes to success and living your best life. It helps identify self-sabotaging habits you probably don’t realize you have until you read it. This is a really refreshing book to start your year off right.
I don’t know about you, but that title sounds good to me! I just purchased this book, and I am really excited to read it. I have trouble managing my time with everything I need to accomplish. Ferriss explains how he went from working 80 hour work weeks at $40,000 a year to 4-hour work weeks for $40,000 a MONTH. Sounds like an awesome read!
I know (personally) I have a long way to go when it comes to money management (or so my husband says…) and from the reviews I’ve read about this book, it can help anyone achieve that goal in a rational way. It also gives guidance on how to negotiate your next raise and the perfect cocktail recipe to celebrate after!
Have you read any of these books? If so, let me know what you thought about it!
